The Library of Congress has recognized Dr. Earle as a Living Legend. She is an Explorer in
Residence at the National Geographic Society and former Chief Scientist of NOAA. She has
spent more than 7000 hours underwater researching the oceans. She was awarded the 2009
TED prize for her work to establish” hope spots”– a network of marine protected areas in the
oceans.
Dr. Earle’s presentation on her team’s plan for a manned Deep Ocean exploration will be
followed by a panel discussion with top leaders in the ocean community who will share their
priorities for ocean preservation.
Special guest Kevin Hardy, Senior Development Engineer of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography-
Marine Biology Division, will discuss his recent scientific expedition to the Sirenas Trench and his robotic Deep Ocean Vehicles (DOV’s) that he invented which have been featured on PBS and National Geographic Society.
