Classroom Sessions in Singapore

CLASSROOM SESSIONS
June & July 2017

The International SeaKeepers Society, Asia has reached a new milestone in its Educational Outreach Programming. With the support of Programming Partner, Rolls Royce, an Introductory Lesson is now also offered to students at Singapore schools on the premises before students are invited to participate in SeaKeepers’ signature Floating Classroom sessions aboard DISCOVERY Yachts. Being held within the school premises, the Introductory Lessons allow for a wider reach of students to participate in the lectures given. These lecture sessions have been specially created to highlight SeaKeepers’ mission and are facilitated by the St John’s Island National Marine Laboratory, Outreach and Education team.

The lessons cover marine conservation and scientific research that focuses on Singapore’s marine biodiversity during the classroom session. Students are also introduced to SeaKeepers’ Drifters and how the data collected from the deployment of a SeaKeepers’ Drifter can contribute to and assist in the collection of data needed to monitor the state and health of our oceans. Both the on-school premises and the Floating Classroom educational outreach sessions are aimed at Singapore’s school students and youth.

These specially created Introductory Lessons began in June 2017 and have taken place thus far at four participating schools: Nan Hua Secondary School (June 27), De Yi Secondary School (June 29), Changkat Changi Secondary School (July 4), and Serangoon Gardens Secondary School (July 5).
