BAL DE LA MER HIGHLIGHTS - MONACO 2006

The glamorous Bal De La Mer Gala is one of the highlights of the Annual Rendezvous. Held at the historic Hotel de Paris, the coveted event raises funds to support the International SeaKeepers Society and The Mediterranean Science Commission -- two organizations dedicated to protecting the marine environment.

During this spectacular evening of dining and dancing, the SeaKeepers Award is presented to an individual exhibiting an extraordinary commitment to marine conservation. In 2006, the SeaKeepers Award was presented to Walter Cronkite for his lifelong contribution to the protection and enhancement of the marine environment. Mr. Cronkite, who has also received America's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, described his SeaKeeper Award as "the 2nd most important recognition he has received in his life", and praised the Society's "dedication and leadership."
