ALFA NERO, OCEANCO HOST RECEPTION
DURING MONACO YACHT SHOW (SEPT 2007)

The newest, largest and most impressive launch from Dutch superyacht builder and  SeaKeeper Partner Oceanco hosted a reception for SeaKeeper members and prospective members in Monaco for the Monaco Yacht Show.

The invitation-only event was jointly hosted Sept. 21 by SeaKeepers and ShowBoats International magazine and sponsored by AIG and its Private Client Group. The reception provided SeaKeepers and ShowBoats with the opportunity to present a check for $208,269 to Dr. Frederic Briand, Director General for the Mediterranean Science Commission. The check represents half of the proceeds from this year’s Bal de la Mer during the ShowBoats Rendezvous in June.

Alpha Nero Reception

More than 100 guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres aboard the massive, 82M Alfa Nero, the largest yacht in the show. Mr. Theodore Angelopoulos, owner of Alfa Nero, chairman of Oceanco, and an Admiral’s Club member, gave many invitees personal tours of his newest yacht. Oceanco joined SeaKeepers three years ago as the first Yacht Partner. The builder installs SeaKeeper 1000 ocean monitoring systems as standard equipment on every yacht it launches. Alfa Nero is the second Oceanco yacht with a SeaKeeper system. Four more SK1000 systems are on order for future builds.

In presenting the check to Dr. Briand, Jim Gilbert, Board President, thanked Mr. Angelopoulos for his hospitality and for the vision and leadership demonstrated by his company. Participating in the check-passing ceremony were Gary DeSanctis, publisher, and Jill Bobrow, editor, of ShowBoats International. In accepting the check on behalf of his The Mediterranean Science Commission and its president HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, who also provides his high patronage to SeaKeepers and the Bal de la Mer, Dr. Briand thanked the organizations and its donors and explained that funds provided to his organization are used to support critically needed research to protect the Mediterranean and its marine resources at a time when the sea is undergoing enormous changes due to warming, pollution and over-fishing.
