Society Launches 'Every Member Get A Member' Recruiting Campaing
As SeaKeepers enters its 10th year its mission of science and education to promote healthy, sustainable seas is more important than ever. With several enormously significant and impactful programs under way, including developing a standard for integrated, low-cost coastal monitoring, a global conference on ocean sustainability and its unique SeaKiosk educational tool, funding is also more critical than ever.
To ensure the success of these programs, the Society is launching a “Every Member Get a Member” fundraising campaign. “Not only is it vitally important to have the funds we need to make a measurable difference,” said John Englander, CEO, “it’s also important to the vitality of our organization that we keep our members actively involved.”
Admiral's Club members Michael and Sara Abraham
were introduced to the Society by Founder J. Daniel Lugosch.
SeaKeepers has made enormous strides to get to a point where it can launch a major recruiting and fundraising effort, said Jim Gilbert, Board President. “We have spent the last year developing the infrastructure, capacity and the exciting programs necessary for a successful drive,” he said. This includes the newsletter, which in this issue has grown to eight pages, the additional of new staff, and the production of a compelling new high-definition DVD for use by members in introducing their friends and associates to the organization. “Part of the motivation behind the DVD,” Gilbert said, “is to promote the Society and its programs to potential corporate sponsors, as well. We would like to encourage all our members to also use their extensive contacts to find natural corporate partners for SeaKeepers.”
Admiral's Club member Mark Grosvenor introduced both Founder Matt Hagans (left) and Founder Bruce erickson (right) to Seakeepers.
In 2007, referrals made by its members brought in more than $1M. If every member got a member, said Don Tomlin, Board Chairman, that number could be close to $5M. “There are no limits to what we can do and what positive impacts we can have on the health of the oceans,” Tomlin said. “But we can’t do this without continued growth and financial support. Please take a minute to review a few of the relatively easy things you can do to increase our capacity to make a significant difference in turning the tide on the deterioration of our seas.”

Three Easy Steps
- Make a direct referral: Make a direct call, or provide Board President Jim Gilbert with contact information and he will get in touch with your friend on your behalf (gilbert@seakeepers.org or 1+ 954.770.9624).
- Send information: SeaKeepers has plenty of high-quality informational material, including our new HD DVD, brochures, press clips, referrals and even our new high-content website – www.seakeepers.org.
- Host an intimate dinner: Face-to-face meetings are our most effective recruiting tool. Please consider using your home or yacht for a small, 3-4 couple dinner with a SeaKeepers Director, providing friends and associated a fascinating opportunity to learn more about the critical ocean issues of our time and why SeaKeepers’ work is so important.
