Society Hosts Events at 2008 Monaco Show

Despite a backdrop of turmoil due to uncertainty in the world’s financial markets, the 2008 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show provided the SeaKeepers Society with a strong platform for promoting its mission to prospective members and yacht industry partners. The week was highlighted by notification that the Society has been officially approved as a not-for-profit association in Monaco (see story, below).

SeaKeepers Soirée Monaco
The yacht show provided the Society with the opportunity to host its inaugural SeaKeepers Soirée Monaco. The Soirée, presented by Corporate Partner OnlyYacht, was held at the incredibly beautiful Maya Bay restaurant. Approximately 150 guests – including several Founding members - enjoyed beautiful food, settings, and live music while mingling with others sharing their same passion of protecting our oceans.

Due to the generosity of OnlyYacht and other sponsors, 100 percent of the proceeds from the evening went to support marine conservation programs being lead by SeaKeepers Professionals. Karim Mehanna, Director General of OnlyYacht, a division of SuissCourtage, was full of enthusiasm for the event, "We were delighted by the number and quality of captains who attended the SeaKeepers Soirée at Maya Bay. All of us at OnlyYacht were very proud of the incredible success of this major fund-raising event." Other key sponsors included Dockwise Yacht Transport, Intn'l Yacht Collection, Moore and Co., Island Global Yachting, Deerberg Systems, National Marine Suppliers, the Sacks Group, Global Marine Travel, YCO, and SeaMobile. Media sponsors included Dockwalk, The Triton, Yachting Magazine, and Yachts International. “Our sponsors are an incredibly supportive group,” said SeaKeepers Communications Director Averill Conley. “I would really like to acknowledge the care and concern this industry has for the state of our oceans. The evening’s success is a direct result of their generosity.”

Even more importantly, the SeaKeepers Soirée really keeps on giving…an introduction by a new SeaKeepers Professionals captain resulted in a new Founder – bringing the total raised as a result of the Soirée close to $100K to support ocean monitoring and related programs.

Anastasia Reception
SeaKeepers Yacht Partner Oceanco hosted a reception for SeaKeepers members aboard its newest launch, 75m Anastasia. The invitation-only event was jointly hosted by SeaKeepers and ShowBoats International, and provided guests the opportunity to tour the boat and see firsthand an installed SeaKeeper 1000™ system. Oceanco joined SeaKeepers four years ago as the first Yacht Partner and installs SeaKeeper 1000™ ocean monitoring systems as standard equipment on every yacht it launches. Thanks to the vision and generosity of Oceanco chairman and SeaKeepers Founder Theodore Angelopoulos, four more SeaKeeper 1000™ ocean monitoring systems are on order for future Oceanco builds.
