Overview

On the 28th of May 2025, SeaKeepers South Pacific was honored to attend Blue Talks Auckland: How to Build a Sustainable and Regenerative Blue Economy. The event was held as part of a global dialogue in the lead-up to the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), co-chaired by France and Costa Rica and taking place in Nice, France this June.

Representing SeaKeepers South Pacific were the Director of the South Pacific Chapter, Melissa White; Program Assistant, Alessandra Vallim; and Trustee Lance Sheppard. The event gathered a diverse group of stakeholders committed to the future of ocean health, including Laurence Beau, the new Ambassador of France to New Zealand; Shane Jones, New Zealand’s Minister for Oceans and Fisheries; and Lawrence Meredith, Ambassador of the European Union to New Zealand, alongside researchers from the University of Auckland and industry representatives.

Blue Talks Auckland focused on how to build a Blue Economy that is not only sustainable but regenerative, balancing economic opportunity with the urgent need to restore ocean ecosystems and support coastal communities. The program included insightful talks and two engaging roundtable discussions: “Sustainable Management of Fishing Resources” and “Developing Our Ports for Regional Development and Connectivity.” These conversations emphasized regional cooperation, sustainable resource use, and innovative strategies to support resilient maritime communities.

SeaKeepers South Pacific was proud to contribute to this important conversation and remains committed to promoting ocean conservation through science, collaboration, and action across the South Pacific region.
