Overview

On May 18, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society were invited to attend the Partner Send-Off for DISCOVERY Vessel Yeva and her inspirational sailor, Ella Hibbert. Leaving on Saturday 24 May, 2025, Ella is undertaking a record-setting solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle, travelling to Iceland, Greenland, through the Northwest and Northeast passages past Canada and Russia, respectively, before finally rounding Norway and heading back towards the UK. She aims to use her voyage to raise awareness for the impacts of climate change on the Arctic landscape and showcase sea ice decline. As Ella says, this is “a voyage that should not be possible” - made possible only due to the melting of polar ice caps and characteristic sea ice to form traversable open ocean expanses. Travelling for approximately 5 months, across 10,000 miles of sea, and through 7 Arctic countries, her journey will be one of strength and determination.

As a SeaKeepers Citizen Scientist, Ella is contributing invaluable bathymetric data to the Seabed 2030 project, mapping the seafloor where few have previously travelled. At the Partner Send-Off, Ella welcomed supporters, partners, friends and family to thank them all for their support of her endeavours. Here, SeaKeepers connected with various partners who align with our mission and shared in the collective passion for ocean conservation and marine stewardship. SeaKeepers wish Ella the best of luck on her voyage and are supporting her every step of the way.
