The International SeaKeepers Society’s Asia Chapter will host the Asia Awards Dinner 2018 at ONE°15 Marina Club, Sentosa Cove, Singapore on April 13th to present a SeaKeeper of the World Award, the Asia Achievement Award, and DISCOVERY Yacht Presentations to members of the DISOCVERY Yacht Program.
This is the third year for the Asia Awards Dinner, which is hosted every year by Sandra & Julian Chang. Julian Chang is a SeaKeepers Board member and President of the SeaKeepers Asia chapter. Special Guest for the 2018 event is Wendy Benchley. Benchley is an advocate for ocean conservation and shark protection, and received the prestigious 2014 SeaKeeper Award in Monaco.
SeaKeepers Asia Chapter was established in 2016 and has been a crucial component in raising awareness for ocean conservation. In 2017, SeaKeepers Asia hosted eight educational outreach programs, six of which were “floating classroom” experiences aboard vessels in Singapore. While onboard these “floating classrooms” students learned about marine biodiversity and conservation efforts from scientists and participated in research activities including collecting samples, working with microscopes, and learning about scuba diving.
Last year, the Asia Awards Dinner 2017 recognized Francis Lee and the Nature Society (Singapore) Marine Conservation Group for their extraordinary efforts and commitment towards Singapore’s marine conservation. The event was held at the SEA Aquarium, Resorts World Sentosa Singapore. Fabien Cousteau, world renowned aquanaut and member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the International SeaKeepers Society and Sylvia Earle, marine biologist, explorer, author, and also a member of SeaKeepers’ Scientific Advisory Council, were special guests for the evening.
