Deep Glider Deployment

Project Overview

During June 5th – 7th, 2018, The International SeaKeepers Society traveled to Chub Cay, Bahamas with the University of Washington to deploy Deepgliders from the DISCOVERY Yacht Mystique. Deepgliders are buoyancy-driven, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) which repeatedly glide from the surface to the sea floor and back. They follow a pre-determined path, taking measurement of salinity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen. AUV’s are important tools for physical oceanography research. As climate change becomes an ever increasing threat, knowledge of our ocean currents can be an important indicator of its severity now and in the future.
