Carthe Drifter Deployments

Researchers from the Consortium for Advanced Research on Transport of Hydrocarbons in the Environment (CARTHE) of the University of Miami completed another trip aboard D/Y Shredder of Fleet Miami. Several drifters of varying designs were all deployed in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Florida. This expedition was vital to a long term research project utilizing different kinds of ocean drifters, which are used to document ocean currents and predict the distribution of pollutants. The day-long trip helped to finalize the research team’s efforts for the large-scale project. A special thanks to the Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science for letting us use their dock as a loading point.
