Project Overview
On the morning of September 17th, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society hosted a virtual lesson with 3 students and 4 educators of the Alpha Delta Theta Chapter of the National Honors Society. Our Educational Outreach Manager, Jack, and our Community Engagement Manager, Lillian, led an interactive discussion about a wide variety of topics all revolving around the nature, study, and aspects that encompass oceanography. Our students were successfully able to match each type of oceanography with its definition, identify the different zones in the ocean, and make conclusions and inferences about seafloor mapping and why it is important. Following our discussion, the students had a chance to highlight some of the ways we as scientists can explore our oceans through the use of specific types of marine technology ranging from submersibles to ROVs to SONAR. These students surprised our team with their prior knowledge, easily able to pinpoint various marine technology innovations that enable oceanography and the mapping of the ocean. Finally, we highlighted the current efforts of seafloor mapping through the work of SEABED 2030, a massive seafloor mappping project enabled by the diligent efforts of SeaKeepers Citizen Science team. We give a huge, sincere thank you to the students and educators of the Alpha Delta Theta chapter of the National Honor Society for joining us and we look forward to our second lesson with them in October!
