Junior SeaKeepers 25-26 Webinar 1: Sarah Prieto – Aquaculture and Marine Sustainability
- October 22, 2025
- Miami, Florida
Project Overview
On Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025, The International SeaKeepers hosted our first webinar for our 2025-26 cohort of students. For this first virtual webinar and second overall following our orientation, we were beyond excited to welcome Sarah Prieto, an Environmental Specialist at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Sarah is an experienced Marine Biologist and expert on all things Aquaculture, and we were extremely lucky and thankful to have her join us for this talk! Sarah discussed the nature of aquaculture and its many career opportunities, fielding questions and going in depth about various careers our JSKs were most interested in hearing more about. Sarah also discussed and quizzed our students on some of the most popular cultured fish species in Florida, as well as shared links and information for some of our JSKs to bring to their schools and clubs all over South Florida. After her presentation, Sarah stayed late to talk with a lot of our JSKs, answering many of their questions and even allowing some of our students to show off their own aquaculture projects through their fish tanks! We give an immense thank you to Sarah for joining us and making our first virtual webinar one to remember, and we cannot wait to collaborate with her and the Florida Department of Agriculture team very soon!
