Manta Watch New Zealand Filming & Survey Expedition

On November 5th, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society South Pacific facilitated a one-day expedition in the Hauraki Gulf aboard the DISCOVERY Yacht Nyla. The purpose of the day was to support Manta Watch New Zealand in capturing promotional footage for their ongoing research and awareness initiatives, while also maintaining lookout efforts for any potential oceanic manta ray activity in the region.

The team focused their survey around the waters near Rangitoto Island, and while no oceanic manta rays were sighted during this expedition, the outing offered valuable time assessing key locations, refining survey approaches, and supporting Manta Watch New Zealand’s outreach goals.
