Junior SeaKeepers 2025-26 Workshop 4: Citizen Science

JSK Workshop 4 (1)

Project Overview

On December 3, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society hosted our fourth workshop of the 2025-26 Junior SeaKeepers program. This workshop was centered on all things citizen science, including what real-life ongoing projects at SeaKeepers look like, how scientists properly define and utilize citizen science in wider research efforts, and even some pitfalls to avoid when conducting citizen science. For this workshop, we were extremely lucky to be joined by Rosie Moore, SeaKeepers’ Citizen Science Manager and someone very experienced in a vast array of different types of research as well as working with a wide range of audiences on an international scale. Rosie shared all about more than 15 of the ongoing citizen science projects at SeaKeepers happening all over the world, answered plenty of student questions, and even offered to provide insight on how our JSKs can get involved themselves in these ongoing citizen science efforts. We finished the day with a quick Q&A both about citizen science as well as the JSK research project. We give a huge thank you to Rosie for joining us and sharing all of her incredible work, and to all of our JSKs for their great questions and engagement!
