Project Overview
On December 10, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society hosted a virtual lesson with 3 students and 4 educators from the Future Marine Biologists Program of Lux et Veritas Homeschool Group. Our Educational Outreach Manager, Jack, led our fourth lesson with these students, hosting a presentation and interactive discussion on all things fish physiology. We highlighted numerous physical features of marine organisms that can be used to determine their likely habitat, diet, trophic role, and swimming ability. Our students in particular typically pointed towards fin size, teeth shape, and what senses seemed the strongest on various marine organisms to make these important distinctions. After discussing these principles and looking at several marine organisms as case studies, we let the students get involved in putting their new expertise to the test. They were given a choice of two sets of traits and given the chance to draw a fish that expressed all of these traits and explain to us and their peers why they chose certain aspects of body plan. It has been a pleasure working with these students and seeing their comfort and knowledge in the material continue to increase with each lesson, and we give them a huge thanks for their hard work and for joining us!
