Project Overview

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society hosted the seventh workshop for the 2025-2026 cohort of Junior SeaKeepers. This week, we were joined by SeaKeepers’ Community Engagement Manager, Lillian Engelhard. After telling the group about her education history and career path that led her to her current position, Lillian presented on the Community Engagement Program at SeaKeepers, including the dive and shoreline cleanups, networking events, and boat shows. After going over the different types of coastal cleanups and their impact, we spoke about how citizen science intersects with coastal cleanups through the CoralWatch and SEAFAN Bleach Watch programs, which allow divers to report signs of coral bleaching and disease, as well as Marine Debris Tracker, which allows volunteers to report data on marine pollution at coastal cleanups. We ended the workshop by going over how our Junior SeaKeepers can get involved with other community engagement opportunities, and a Q&A session.
