Project Overview
On January 12, students from Temasek Polytechnic presented their service learning projects developed in collaboration with SeaKeepers Asia, bringing fresh energy and new perspectives to marine education. As part of the partnership, students developed a suite of educational materials designed to complement SeaKeepers’ existing lesson plans on Marine Food Webs and Plastics and Microplastics in the Ocean. These deliverables went beyond traditional formats, incorporating supporting graphics, interactive storytelling, and role-play scenarios to make complex marine issues more accessible and engaging.
What stood out most was the students’ dedication and creativity throughout the process. For many, the subject matter was entirely new, yet they approached it with curiosity and determination. They took the time to understand unfamiliar concepts, then thoughtfully translated them into content that resonates with diverse audiences, particularly younger learners. Their storytelling approaches helped humanise environmental challenges, making topics like microplastic pollution more relatable and impactful.
The project reflects how collaborative, hands-on learning can deepen understanding while producing meaningful outputs. Through their enthusiasm and commitment, the students not only strengthened their own knowledge but also contributed valuable resources that support ongoing marine conservation education efforts.
