Event Overview

On the morning of May 2nd, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with Miami Waterkeeper, Big Blue & You, and the HistoryMiami Museum in downtown Miami to host and attend the 2026 Youth Environmental Career Summit. The summit provided an opportunity for high school students all over South Florida to hear from a panel of a wide scope of marine and general scientific professionals, network and learn of ongoing volunteer opportunities, and engage with various local organizations from nonprofits to state parks throughout South Florida. The summit also provided an environment where the students could mingle not just with one another, but with professional marine scientists of varying backgrounds and expertise regarding their path and advice in their respective fields. Our Educational Outreach team arrived early to set up our table with information regarding any and all volunteer opportunities as well as to speak with some of our fellow nonprofits and even set up future opportunities for cooperation before attending the morning panel. Following the panel, our team returned to our table where throughout the morning we spoke with more than 50 students and fellow scientists. We also were lucky enough to have many new faces sign up for future SeaKeepers events, as well as a great deal of interest in joining the oncoming 2026-27 Junior SeaKeepers program! We give a huge thank you to all of our incredible partners for making this an event to remember and to HistoryMiami Museum for hosting us all, and we hope to attend future summits and see some of the students we met at future SeaKeepers events.
