Project Overview
On June 30, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society visited the One ROYAL Effect Foundation to host a classroom lesson with 25 4th-12th grade students, and 3 educators. Our Educational Outreach Manager, Jack, and Community Engagement Manager, Lillian, led an interactive presentation centered on marine ecology and marine animal physiology. By analyzing and learning to distinguish key characteristics and attributes of various groups of marine animals, our students differentiated between coastal, open ocean, and deep ocean species. Over the course of the lesson, the students became experts in labeling fish versus mammals, as well as looking at features like tail shape and eye size to determine the most likely habitat for various species. Following the presentation, we moved on to an activity to put their new knowledge to use, using a template of physiological descriptions to allow the students to design their own fish. The SeaKeepers team helped each student come up with unique designs that suited a specific habitat, swimming type, and preferred lifestyle. Our students came up with some truly unique designs, and we finished the day by allowing them to describe what made their species special and even what they named this new fish. We give a huge thank you to the team and students of One ROYAL Effect Foundation for a great day of learning, and we hope to work with them again in the near future!
