NUS Students Discover the Power of Collaboration in Marine Conservation

On 30 July 2026, SeaKeepers Asia welcomed 21 students from the NUS College of Alice & Peter Tan for a morning of learning, discussion, and exploration at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove as part of their Community Engagement Day.

The visit brought together three community partners—Our Singapore Reefs, ONE°15 Marina, and SeaKeepers Asia—to give students a behind-the-scenes look at how marine conservation happens in Singapore. While each organisation approaches conservation from a different perspective, the morning highlighted one important message: no one can save the ocean alone.

Students were reminded that protecting the ocean is a shared effort. From learning and volunteering to participating in citizen science and sharing knowledge, each contribution plays a part. When organisations, communities, and individuals work together in practical, sustained ways, meaningful progress becomes possible.

SeaKeepers Asia shared how our mission is made possible through collaboration. Whether working with scientists, educators, yacht owners, businesses, government agencies, volunteers, or community groups, every partnership contributes unique strengths towards one shared purpose—protecting and restoring our oceans.

This focus on collaboration closely reflects the ethos of the College of Alice & Peter Tan, which is distinguished by its commitment to helping students engage meaningfully with communities within and beyond NUS. The College actively encourages students to apply their learning to real-world issues, with active citizenship and community engagement intentionally woven into both its curriculum and student experience.

Following Q & A, participants headed out around the Marina to experience conservation in action. Site visits included DISCOVERY Yacht Legend, where students learned how yachts can support marine research and education through the DISCOVERY Yacht Programme; the CollecThor floating waste-collection system; and the Coral Garden, which showcased habitat restoration efforts within the Marina.
