Event Overview

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with Ransom Everglades School to host members of the freshman class for a beach cleanup at Cranon Park on Key Biscayne, Florida. We were joined by 52 students and three faculty from Ransom Everglades School as well as the Miami-Dade County Volunteer in Parks coordinator. After checking in all the volunteers, SeaKeepers held a quick safety and instructional briefing to make sure the students were protected during the cleanup and didn’t pick up organic waste. After grabbing gloves, pickers, and buckets, the students set out to look for debris to remove from the sandy shoreline, the picnic areas, and the parking lot. In just about one hour, the students began returning with full buckets, mostly consisting of single-use plastics, aluminum cans, and glass bottles. They also collected some larger debris, like an abandoned umbrella and a pool noodle! The students managed to collect a total of 117 pounds of trash that was placed into bags to be collected by the park staff, leaving the park free of debris that could enter the water and endanger the local marine life and seabirds. We had a great time partnering with Ransom Everglades School for this event, and we hope to continue the tradition with future classes to come!
