NSU Sharks for Global Health Cleanup
- October 4, 2026
- Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Event Overview
On Sunday, October 4, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with Nova Southeastern University’s Sharks For Global Health Organization for a beach cleanup on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Sharks for Global Health was founded with the mission of improving global health and health inclusivity through service and education for undergraduate and graduate students at NSU. SeaKeepers joined 7 members of Sharks for Global Health on the sand at Fort Lauderdale Beach, where they grabbed gloves, pickers, buckets and bags and headed out in search of debris. This wide beach has several picnic areas, and is frequently busy on the weekends, leaving lots of trash behind which can harm marine life and seabirds. Our volunteers spent an hour searching the beach for trash, mostly finding plastic fragments as well as items like cigarette butts, bottle caps and aluminum cans, with a total of more than 6 pounds of trash removed from the beach. We are so proud of the volunteers efforts to protect the health of the ocean, and we look forward to partnering with Sharks for Global Health Organization again in the future!
