Project Overview

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society hosted the Orientation ceremony for the 2026-27 Junior SeaKeepers Program at Miami Yacht Club. We welcomed 20 high school students from all over Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, along with their family members, to Miami Yacht Club to join us for an introduction to the program for our next cohort of students. To start the orientation ceremony, JSKs checked in with and met the SeaKeepers Educational Outreach Team and the Community Engagement team who will both serve as mentors and leaders for the program. Our JSKs heard from SeaKeepers Community Engagement Manager, Lillian, and SeaKeepers Educational Outreach Manager Jack, for an opening presentation detailing program requirements, expectations, and other details for promoting and fostering a positive experience for each individual student as a Junior SeaKeeper.

Following our presentation, we were extremely lucky to have JSK alumnus Alexander Walker perform his PSA music pieces on both marine conservation and lionfish conservation. Alex as well as his brother and another previous Junior SeaKeepers, Angel Walker, were also kind enough to take a moment and answer any questions about the JSK experience from our newest cohort of students. We are beyond thankful to Alex and Angel for coming out and offering their support and guidance to our 2026-27 JSKs!

We are so thrilled to welcome this year’s cohort of Junior SeaKeepers and cannot wait to see how they grow as ocean conservation advocates and young scientists as a part of our program. Welcome aboard 2026-27 Junior SeaKeepers!
