Intact Insurance X SeaKeepers Rottingdean Beach Clean-up

On September 1, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society welcomed 25 participants from Intact Insurance to Rottingdean Beach for a coastal clean-up. The day began at Daisy’s Pantry, where the group met for breakfast before receiving a short introduction to SeaKeepers and learning more about why coastal clean-ups and marine debris data collection are important. The group then headed onto Rottingdean Beach, where they spent an hour and a half cleaning the coastline before sorting and recording data on everything collected. Some of the most common items found included miscellaneous bags, food wrappers, plastic fragments and paper pieces. Following the clean-up and data collection, everyone returned to Daisy’s Pantry for packed lunches and prize giving.

The International SeaKeepers Society hosted the clean-up in collaboration with Intact Insurance, bringing together support from both the wider community and the yachting industry. SeaKeepers is incredibly grateful for Intact Insurance’s continued support and to all 25 participants who gave their time to help care for the local coastline. A special thank you also goes to Daisy’s Pantry for hosting the group and providing breakfast, refreshments and packed lunches throughout the day. SeaKeepers looks forward to working with Intact Insurance again next year and continuing to build on this collaboration.

During cleanups, SeaKeepers utilises Marine Debris Tracker, a data collection app that allows the public to record marine plastic pollution environments in an open-source database. The app was developed by the University of Georgia’s Jambeck Research Group, who have collaborated with SeaKeepers in 2021 and 2022 on Circularity Assessment Protocols in Miami and the Florida Keys. Data collected helps inform scientific findings and effective legislation. In this cleanup, 100% of volunteers used the app to record data. SeaKeepers is excited to continue incorporating this tool in our mission of coastal education, protection, and restoration.
