Event Overview

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with Biscayne Neighborhoods Association (BNA) and The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts to host a cleanup for International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day at Margaret Pace Park. This year is the 40th anniversary of ICC, the world’s largest single-day volunteer effort for our ocean, organized globally by Ocean Conservancy. Participation in Miami-Dade County is organized by Volunteercleanup.org, with more than 60 cleanups occurring on the same day, engaging thousands of volunteers to remove marine debris from our coastlines. SeaKeepers was joined by 78 volunteers at Margaret Pace Park, who listened to SeaKeepers and BNA staff for a safety and instructional briefing before grabbing their cleanup gear and setting out to clean up the park. Volunteers quickly began returning with full bags and buckets of garbage, consisting of plastic, paper, aluminum and glass. Some volunteers came back with some odd finds, like a large plastic road barricade that ended up in the shallow water. Over the course of three hours, our hardworking volunteers removed more than 300 pounds of trash from the park and surrounding neighborhood, leaving the bay a bit cleaner for our marine life. We are so grateful to all the volunteers who attended, to BNA and The Arsh Center for their partnership, and to Ocean Conservancy and Volunteercleanup.org for organizing such an impactful day!
