Event Overview

On January 13, 2026, The International SeaKeepers Society attended an evening at the Little Ship Club in London to hear a talk from DISCOVERY Vessel captain, Ella Hibbert, widely known as Ella in the Arctic. Ella is currently attempting to become the first woman to circumnavigate the Arctic Circle single-handed. During her presentation, Ella reflected on the extreme challenges she faced in 2025 as she began this mammoth voyage, and explained how her expedition is supporting the Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project, which aims to map the entire global ocean seafloor by the year 2030. The evening also provided an opportunity to hear from Mike Golding OBE, President of the Little Ship Club and SeaKeepers Ambassador, who highlighted the positive role that individual expeditions can play in advancing ocean research and awareness.

The International SeaKeepers Society attended the club night to celebrate the achievements of DISCOVERY Vessel captain Ella Hibbert and to highlight how independent sailors can support global scientific initiatives. Ella’s voyage demonstrates how easily private vessels can contribute to meaningful ocean research through SeaKeepers Citizen Science programme, by participating in projects such as Seabed 2030. SeaKeepers looks forward to following Ella’s return to the Arctic later this year as she continues her circumnavigation challenge.
