SeaKeepers Attends Australian Citizen Science Association Conference
- October 13 - 15
- Melbourne, Australia
Event Overview
From October 13–15, Alessandra Vallim, Programme Manager for the South Pacific at The International SeaKeepers Society, attended the Australian Citizen Science Association (ACSA) Conference in Melbourne, Australia. The event brought together around 200 delegates from across Australia and around the world, including scientists, educators, NGOs, government agencies, and conservation groups using citizen science to drive real environmental impact.
SeaKeepers attended to connect with organisations working in ocean conservation and marine citizen science. It was also a great opportunity to strengthen relationships with partners already aligned with our mission. Citizens of the Reef, with whom we collaborate through the International Junior SeaKeepers Program (IJSK), was present, sharing their global initiative to monitor coral health through community participation.
Ocean-focused citizen science was represented throughout the conference, with many organisations sharing projects related to marine research on the Great Barrier Reef, coastal monitoring, and plastic pollution prevention. The event was a valuable space for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and building momentum toward a more connected global citizen science community.
