Event Overview

On September 30, 2025 The International SeaKeepers Society was welcomed by the Little Ship Club and Commodore Jill Moffatt to their historic Thames-side clubhouse for a special Club Night, where SeaKeepers had the opportunity to present to members and guests. The evening highlighted the Seakeepers mission of promoting oceanographic research, conservation, and education through collaborations with the yachting community.
The International SeaKeepers Society attended Little Ship Club Night to strengthen engagement with the UK boating community and build awareness of its DISCOVERY Programme, an initiative that pairs privately owned vessels with marine scientists to support at-sea research. By showcasing the programme and the achievements of DISCOVERY Vessel Captains, SeaKeepers demonstrated how recreational boaters can contribute directly to ocean science and conservation.
SeaKeepers was joined by Mike Golding OBE, who shared his story as a DISCOVERY Vessel Captain. Golding spoke about his 14-month expedition aboard Traverse and the various research projects that he supported as he explored some of the world’s most remote regions.
The presentation also celebrated the achievements of other SeaKeepers DISCOVERY Vessel Captains. Ella Hibbert was recognised for becoming the first British woman to solo navigate the Northwest Passage as part of her ambitious mission to solo circumnavigate the Arctic Circle. Meanwhile, Lewis and Sasha were highlighted for their ongoing journey around the UK and her islands, during which they are actively collecting valuable ocean data.
The evening also highlighted the Club’s proud sailing heritage, led over the years by figures such as Sir Owen Aisher and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, and its continued commitment to global exploration and ocean stewardship. With its tradition of organising rallies, ocean crossings, and circumnavigations, and through its worldwide network of Honorary Port Officers, the Little Ship Club is perfectly positioned to support SeaKeepers with their mission to Research, Educate, Protect and Restore, providing opportunities for all boaters to contribute to ocean science.
