Event Overview
On November 16, 2024, SeaKeepers proudly sponsored a dynamic climate action workshop at the University of Fiji, which brought together 33 enthusiastic attendees. This event was centered around Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13), which emphasizes urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. SDG 13 targets include strengthening resilience, improving education and awareness, and fostering international cooperation for climate mitigation and adaptation.
The workshop exemplified these principles by empowering participants to think critically and act locally. A key highlight was the 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, where participants delivered concise, impactful presentations on topics related to climate action. Exceptional contributions were celebrated with special Audience Awards for โBest Enthusiastic Engagement Participantโ and โBest Uplifting of Workshop with Positive Energy,โ reflecting the event’s vibrant atmosphere.
Another impactful activity was the pledge wall centered on Target 13.b, which focuses on promoting mechanisms for effective climate-related actions. Participants made personal commitments to combat climate change, reinforcing the importance of individual and collective responsibility.
SeaKeepers contributed a thought-provoking video highlighting critical climate challenges such as coral bleaching, severe weather events, biodiversity loss, melting ice sheets, and disrupted migration patterns. The videoโs alignment with SDG 13โs goals inspired participants to consider how these global issues connect to local actions.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising the engaging activities, the motivational 3MT presentations, and the SeaKeepers video. The workshopโs interactive format maintained high energy throughout the day, leaving attendees motivated to take meaningful steps toward climate action.
SeaKeepers is honored to have supported this impactful event, fostering awareness, dialogue, and action while empowering the next generation of climate leaders.
