Event Overview

On Friday, November 7, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with Miami Waterkeeper and Tripping Animals Brewing for Un Granito de Arena, a cleanup at The Wetlab at The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. This date marked the seventh edition of this event, which unites volunteers for a marine debris cleanup on a local coastline, followed by a tap takeover by Tripping Animals Brewing, with a portion of each beer sold donated in support of Miami Waterkeeper and SeaKeepers’ missions. We were joined by 25 volunteers on the sand outside The Wetlab, where they grabbed gloves, tongs and buckets and set out down the Virginia Key beach in search of marine debris. In just 45 minutes, volunteers had returned with multiple full buckets and trash bags, collecting over 55 pounds of trash. A lot of the debris removed consisted of glass bottles, aluminum cans, and hard and soft plastics, which tend to break down on the sand or in the water, where they endanger marine life. After properly disposing of all the collected debris, volunteers celebrated their hard work upstairs with some Tripping Animals brews and learned more about how to get involved with SeaKeepers and Miami Waterkeeper to keep the movement for cleaner shores going. We are so grateful to The Wetlab for hosting us, and we look forward to continuing the Un Granito de Arena event series!
