Project Overview
On November 29 , as the programme drew to a close, the Junior SeaKeepers 2025 cohort participants in Singapore received a certificate, marking the beginning of their journey as ocean stewards.
The IJSK Programme 2025 unfolded in part as an inspiring journey, guiding students from the ASIA chapter through the interconnected worlds of ocean conservation, sustainability, and science communication. Designed to nurture young ocean stewards, the programme blended expert-led webinars with hands-on learning experiences, bringing real-world environmental challenges into focus.
Participants explored critical topics through a dynamic series of sessions and workshops from May to November. Highlights included in Webinar 4, Dr Winston Chow, who introduced the complexities of urban sustainability and climate change adaptation, encouraging students to rethink how cities can evolve in a warming world. This was complemented by an additional session on the Great Reef Census, where Sean Daly shared insights into large-scale marine monitoring efforts and the power of collective action.
The programme also featured regional conservation efforts. In Webinar 6, Sam Shu Qin shed light on coral reef conservation in Asia, deepening students’ understanding of fragile marine ecosystems closer to home. Meanwhile, Haley Davis equipped participants with practical skills in conducting citizen science, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to environmental research.
