Project Overview

On January 23, a group of 17 staff members from the Singapore Airlines Sustainability Club stepped aboard the DISCOVERY Yacht Legend for a unique floating classroom experience. Led by facilitator Sam Shu Qin, the session introduced participants to coral conservation in Singapore—an area quite different from their usual focus on aviation-related sustainability.

Designed as a trivia-based talk, the session offered an engaging introduction to coral reefs in Southeast Asia, highlighting their ecological significance and the challenges they face amid climate change and human activities. Participants were immersed in discussions about coral ecosystems and the role individuals can play in protecting marine biodiversity. While the topic was new for many, it quickly sparked curiosity and lively engagement. Notably, several participants were already divers, adding depth to the conversations through their firsthand experiences with coral reefs.

The shift from skies to seas proved both refreshing and thought-provoking. Participants developed a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of environmental issues and recognised that sustainability efforts extend well beyond their professional domain. By the end of the session, there was a palpable sense of enthusiasm and a shared interest in doing more for the marine environment.

The floating classroom not only broadened perspectives but also inspired participants to consider how they might contribute to conservation efforts, both individually and collectively.
