International Junior SeaKeepers Launch in Singapore

Project Overview

On May 23, 2025, the International SeaKeepers Society, Asia proudly launched the International Junior SeaKeepers Program (IJSK) with a cohort of 30 enthusiastic students from 10 different schools in Singapore. This launch was part of a coordinated global effort, with the UK and South Pacific chapters also introducing their own Junior SeaKeepers cohorts during the same week, marking a significant milestone in the programme’s international expansion.

During the online launch event, SeaKeepers Asia outlined the programmeโ€™s features, emphasizing its global communication opportunities, networking potential, and professional development workshops. They also underscored the importance of empowering students to become proactive ocean ambassadors within their local and international communities.

A Programme That Inspires Ocean Ambassadors

The International Junior SeaKeepers Program stands out as a globally recognized educational platform that empowers students to become active ocean ambassadors in their local and global communities. This exclusive seven-month virtual initiative is designed for motivated youth aged 14 to 18, offering them a transformative experience in oceanographic research, science communication, and environmental advocacy. Under the guidance of international marine science experts , participants explore pressing environmental challenges and the scientific and policy solutions needed to address them.
Throughout the seven-month journey, students will:

  • Participate in expert-led webinars and workshops conducted by renowned marine scientists and conservationists from the 3 regions.
  • Build essential skills in scientific research, public speaking, and leadership.
  • Take part in the Science Communication PSA Project, where they learn to translate complex marine science into powerful, accessible messages for the public.
  • Network with professionals in marine science, sustainability, and advocacy, gaining valuable insight and inspiration.

Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and join the expanding Junior SeaKeepers alumni network, a global community of young leaders dedicated to protecting our oceans.

SKA x KAIA: Expanding Opportunities Through Partnership

In celebration of the programmeโ€™s launch in Singapore, SeaKeepers Asia (SKA) has partnered with the Kaia Initiative to offer an extraordinary opportunity. Two exceptional applicants from Asia were selected for a fully sponsored spot in the Kaia Initiative Youth Diver Course, where they will earn their PADI Open Water Certificationโ€”equipping them with hands-on diving experience and a deeper connection to the marine environment.

Offered at no cost, the Junior SeaKeepers Programme requires only one thing: a sincere commitment to learning, collaboration, and a shared passion for protecting our oceanโ€™s future.
