Project Overview

On October 15, 2026, SeaKeepers delivered a series of presentations to Year 8 students at John Paul College, reaching approximately 80 students across three groups. The sessions introduced students to SeaKeepers, its mission, and the important work being done to protect our oceans, while exploring some of the biggest challenges facing marine environments today.

Students learned about the impacts of coral bleaching, ocean warming, and ocean acidification, discovering how changes in ocean temperature and chemistry can affect coral reefs, marine species, and entire ecosystems. The presentations also explored the effects of bottom trawling, a fishing practice that can damage seafloor habitats and disturb marine life. Alongside these challenges, students learned about the importance of marine reserves, and how protecting areas of the ocean allows marine life to flourish, habitats to recover, and biodiversity to be preserved. The sessions highlighted how interconnected ocean ecosystems are, and how human activities can have far-reaching consequences for marine life.
