Project Overview
SeaKeepers South Pacific recently joined 11 passionate educators, community leaders, environmental collaborators, and sailing members at Gulf Harbour Yacht Club for an inspiring workshop focused on marine education, citizen science, and protecting the health of our moana.
The workshop provided an opportunity to connect people from different backgrounds who share a common interest in marine conservation and creating meaningful learning experiences for their communities.
Participants were introduced to the Moanamana monitoring tools, exploring how citizen science can be used to investigate local marine environments, collect valuable environmental data, and better understand the health of the Hauraki Gulf.
We were also delighted to have Marine Metre Squared present its fantastic educational projects and resources, highlighting exciting ways to bring marine science into schools and communities through hands-on, locally connected learning.
A key focus was empowering participants to take these tools and ideas back to their own schools, organisations, and local sailing clubs. Through ongoing monitoring, accurate data collection, and analysis, learners can become active contributors to marine science while developing a deeper connection with the environment around them.
It was a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and explore how education and community collaboration can make a meaningful difference for our oceans.
A big thank you to RŪNĀ, Gulf Harbour Yacht Club, Marine Metre Squared, and all 11 participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to marine education.
Together, we are helping inspire the next generation of ocean advocates and empowering communities to become active kaitiaki of our moana.
