Monthly Beach Cleanup
Monthly Beach Cleanup
Key Biscayne, Florida
June 2020
On June 28th, 2020, SeaKeepers hosted it’s monthly beach cleanup on Key Biscayne. This was our first cleanup since quarantine began in March, so masks were required and all volunteers arrived at seperate times to receive their cleanup materials. 6 volunteers attended and removed 45 pounds of trash from the beach! Most of the garbage found was cigarette butts, plastic and foam pieces, plastic bottle caps, food wrappers, glass bottles, and plastic bottles. The cleanup findings were documented on The Ocean Conservancy’s application “Clean Swell” where it then goes into the world’s largest ocean trash dataset. The data helps researchers and policy makers identify trends and create solutions. With this cleanup, SeaKeepers has officially removed 1,660 pounds of trash from this beach since June 2019. We look forward to expanding our partnerships with local schools and businesses to conserve our local beaches and waters. Thank you to all of our volunteers!
