Sensor Deployment in Piney Point, Florida
DISCOVERY Yacht Three Graces / Manatee County, FL
April 7, 2021

On April 7th, 2021, DISCOVERY Yacht Three Graces, owned and captained by SeaKeepers Board member and Scientific Advisory Council Chairman, Mark Luther, assisted a team from the University of South Florida College of Marine Science (USF CMS) to study the environmental impacts of a wastewater breach at Piney Point, a retired fertilizer processing plant in Manatee County, Florida.

D/Y Three Graces transported USF researcher Jay Law and others from the R/V Weatherbird II to deploy three sensors in shallow water on the floor of the bay. These sensors record data every fifteen minutes and will allow the USF team to assess how things such as pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, temperature and chlorophyll are changing over the coming weeks.
