SeaKeepers’ Scientist-Led Expeditions unite scientists and the boating and yachting community to conduct essential marine research. Led by expert scientists, these expeditions use recreational vessels as research platforms to collect valuable data on marine ecosystems, climate change, and ocean biodiversity.

By involving vessel owners and crews in hands-on scientific research, SeaKeepers fosters collaboration between the boating world and marine science. These expeditions help advance ocean conservation efforts and deepen our collective understanding of the ocean’s health.

From Yachts to Research Labs: Exploring the Ocean’s Depths

The largest expense, and often limiting factor, in ocean research is access to an at-sea research platform. Using member yachts, SeaKeepers works with experts in the marine science and oceanography fields to promote and facilitate groundbreaking research. Our programming team tailors each expedition charter to fit both science and yacht in mind.

Each proposal is unique and rewarding for everyone involved. At SeaKeepers, we recognize the immense value that your contribution brings. By designating time aboard your boat as an in-kind donation, you are directly supporting our organization’s efforts in oceanographic research.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The International SeaKeepers Society?

SeaKeepers is a global registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to ocean conservation. Our initiatives rely on the energy and generosity of people around the world who share our concern for the health of the oceans and, by extension, the survival of our planet.

Our core initiative is the DISCOVERY Program, which facilitates marine research and ocean education through partnerships with the boating and academic communities. We coordinate scientific and educational expeditions through the generosity of vessel owners willing to contribute their time and expertise.

SeaKeepers runs land-based and floating ocean education classrooms for K-12 students in addition to professional development workshops for educators focusing on marine biology, conservation, and ocean stewardship.

The Junior SeaKeepers Program introduces high school students to marine science and ocean conservation through educational workshops, service hours, and scholarships.

This is an educational program conducted aboard a DISCOVERY Fleet vessel, where students engage in hands-on learning about marine science, oceanography, and conservation. The vessel serves as the classroom, allowing direct interaction with marine environments for experiential ocean education.

SeaKeepers’ designed the programs to provide the opportunity for young learners to engage with marine education without any financial barriers. The programs are therefore free of charge and accessible to all K-12 educators and students.

This is possible through partnerships with marine educators and other nonprofits to provide enriching experiences and a high-quality educational environment.

SeaKeepers also has a corporate sponsorship program that helps support our initiatives and outreach efforts.

If you are interested in working with SeaKeepers to create a marine conservation experience for your classroom, please contact our programming team directly at programming@seakeepers.org.

Our programs rely on our DISCOVERY Fleet vessels for floating classrooms. The DISCOVERY Program accepts vessels of all sizes. Fill out this form to become a member and see which opportunities match your vessel and your interests.
