Grouper Spawning Aggregation

Grouper Spawning Aggregation Expedition aboard D/Y Andiamo
November 9 - 10, 2018

During November 9th - 10th, 2018, The International SeaKeepers Society teamed up with members of the Boswell Marine Ecology & Acoustics Lab from Florida International University aboard the DISCOVERY Yacht Andiamo to deploy their sonar equipped autonomous survey vehicle (ASV) with the aim of surveying goliath grouper spawning aggregations. The trip took place off the coast of Jupiter, FL. over the course of a day and a half. The Jupiter inlet often poses a challenge for smaller vessels when loaded with equipment, so using a larger vessel anchored offshore allowed for a much safer and efficient execution.
