International Junior SeaKeepers Launch in Singapore

Overview
On May 23, 2025, the International SeaKeepers Society, Asia proudly launched the International Junior SeaKeepers Program (IJSK) with a cohort of 30 enthusiastic students from 10 different schools in Singapore. This launch was part of a coordinated global effort, with the UK and South Pacific chapters also introducing their own Junior SeaKeepers cohorts during the same week, marking a significant milestone in the programme's international expansion.
During the online launch event, SeaKeepers Asia outlined the programme’s features, emphasizing its global communication opportunities, networking potential, and professional development workshops. They also underscored the importance of empowering students to become proactive ocean ambassadors within their local and international communities.
A Programme That Inspires Ocean Ambassadors
The International Junior SeaKeepers Program stands out as a globally recognized educational platform that empowers students to become active ocean ambassadors in their local and global communities. This exclusive seven-month virtual initiative is designed for motivated youth aged 14 to 18, offering them a transformative experience in oceanographic research, science communication, and environmental advocacy. Under the guidance of international marine science experts , participants explore pressing environmental challenges and the scientific and policy solutions needed to address them.
Throughout the seven-month journey, students will:
- Participate in expert-led webinars and workshops conducted by renowned marine scientists and conservationists from the 3 regions.
- Build essential skills in scientific research, public speaking, and leadership.
- Take part in the Science Communication PSA Project, where they learn to translate complex marine science into powerful, accessible messages for the public.
- Network with professionals in marine science, sustainability, and advocacy, gaining valuable insight and inspiration.
Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and join the expanding Junior SeaKeepers alumni network, a global community of young leaders dedicated to protecting our oceans.
SKA x KAIA: Expanding Opportunities Through Partnership
In celebration of the programme’s launch in Singapore, SeaKeepers Asia (SKA) has partnered with the Kaia Initiative to offer an extraordinary opportunity. Two exceptional applicants from Asia were selected for a fully sponsored spot in the Kaia Initiative Youth Diver Course, where they will earn their PADI Open Water Certification—equipping them with hands-on diving experience and a deeper connection to the marine environment.
Offered at no cost, the Junior SeaKeepers Programme requires only one thing: a sincere commitment to learning, collaboration, and a shared passion for protecting our ocean’s future.
