Beach Cleanup with Alexander Montessori (Palmetto Bay)
November 2019

On November 17th, 2019, SeaKeepers hosted the Alexander Montessori School (Palmetto Bay) for a chilly beach cleanup on Key Biscayne. 154 volunteers attended and removed 200 pounds of trash from the beach! Most of the garbage found was cigarette butts, plastic and foam pieces, plastic bottle caps, food wrappers, and plastic bottles. The cleanup findings were documented on The Ocean Conservancy’s application “Clean Swell” where it then goes into the world’s largest ocean trash dataset. The data helps researchers and policy makers identify trends and create solutions. With this cleanup, SeaKeepers has officially removed 1,002 pounds of trash from this beach since June! We look forward to expanding our partnerships with local schools and businesses to conserve our local beaches and waters. Thank you to all of our volunteers!
