Overview

On May 19, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society led an Educational Outreach session with 56 students and 3 educators from St Paul’s Catholic Primary School. We met our team of students at their school in Portsmouth and after getting settled, we began our session with a presentation on the Deep Ocean using the SeaKeepers Lesson Plan created in partnership with Pip Hare Ocean Racing. Our students were interested and enthusiastic to learn more. In this presentation we covered the idea of resilience in the deep ocean and how certain species like the anglerfish have adapted to live in this challenging environment . After presenting, the students were asked to create their own Deep Ocean creatures using their imagination and taking inspiration from the unique adaptations discussed in the session. They considered how their creature could survive, eat and move with their adaptations. After drawing and annotating their creatures, the students were invited to share their ideas with the rest of the class. We finished the session with a Kahoot quiz to see how much the students remembered from the Deep Ocean presentation. This became very competitive and the students were highly successful. Throughout the session, the students asked many insightful questions - some proved to be experts on the Deep Ocean and why it is important to protect it.

SeaKeepers would like to give a huge thanks to the students and educators of St Paul’s Catholic Primary School for hosting us and their hard work on the day. We hope to work together again very soon.
