Classroom Visit with Jollipoli Preschool

Miami, Florida
June 18, 2025

Overview

On June 18th, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society Educational Outreach team visited Jollipoli Preschool in Miami for a classroom lesson experience with 50 students and 7 educators. To begin our lesson, our Community Engagement Manager, Lillian, passed out coloring sheets with art of local Florida species provided by our amazing partner artist Kelly Quinn for our students to enjoy. Next, our first group of students came in and participated in an interactive discussion about all things ocean and marine creatures before pivoting to the pollution epidemic and what we can do in our daily lives to reduce its impacts. To illustrate these effects, Lillian and our Educational Outreach Associate Jack led a demonstration using our Enviroscapes Model Watershed table, allowing for the students to participate in modeling pollution dynamics as well as answer reflection questions on what they can do to prevent the problem from intensifying. As the second, older group of students joined us, we were able to go further in depth about the nature of both pollution and the intricate biodiversity of South Florida’s many ecosystems. The students proved to be natural scientists, blowing our team away with their knowledge of renewable energy sources and what materials they could recycle on their own. We had a fantastic day with the students and educators of Jollipoli Preschool and we give a huge thanks to all of them for their hard work and great discussion, and we hope to see some of them and their families at future SeaKeepers events!
