Crowd the Bay and Gulf of Mexico Conference

Tampa, Florida
February 19 - 22, 2024

Overview

During February 19th-22nd, 2024, The International SeaKeepers Society hosted "Crowd the Bay" in conjunction with the Gulf of Mexico Conference (GOMCON) where our Citizen Science Manager, Haley Davis, attended both conference sessions and the special Crowd the Bay meeting to discuss the importance of Crowdsourced Bathymetry. During GOMCON, she learned about several of the seagrass conservation and research initiatives that are prominent here in Florida, speaking to researchers, managers, and local politicians about this important topic. At Crowd the Bay, she got an even closer look at the applications and practical implementation of crowdsourced bathymetry and how it can strategically be used on large scales within a specific region to provide locals with services they may otherwise not have access to.

Outing Goal

The International SeaKeepers Society attended this conference to provide the programming team with proposals for new citizen science programs, new leads on current projects, and more information about the Crowdsourced Bathymetry data management.
