FIU Fall 2024 Volunteer Sustainability Fair

Overview

On October 17th, 2024, The International SeeaKeepers Society participated in a volunteer Sustainability Fair at Florida International University (FIU) as part of their “Month of Sustainability” initiative. Our Community Engagement Associate, Lillian, and our Educational Outreach Associate, Jack, arrived and set up a table in the expo hall of Graham Center to include links to various volunteer opportunities with SeaKeepers, giveaways of some promotional materials for various programs under the SeaKeepers banner, as well as a marine science trivia game for students and other staffers of the fair to participate in. Throughout the event, we were joined by a plethora of other sustainability-based organizations and campus life groups who we also shared the mission of SeaKeepers with. By the end of the event, we engaged with more than 150 students and volunteers, many of whom participated in our game and signed up to join our newsletter. We give a huge thanks to FIU for hosting us and for promoting sustainable initiatives all month long, and we hope to see some of the students and volunteers at future SeaKeepers events!
