Overview

On May 20, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society UK launched the International Junior SeaKeepers Programme (IJSK) with 10 students and 9 educators from King Edward’s Witley School. We met the 2025 UK cohort of Junior SeaKeepers at their school grounds . After getting acquainted with our new team, we sat down for lunch and got to know each other better, learning about the students’ passions, interests and aspirations. Following this, SeaKeepers shared more information about the programme, highlighting the international communication, networking opportunities and professional development workshops that are available throughout this inaugural initiative. The IJSK programme invites the students to create a Science Communication project to share a chosen aspect of marine research or ocean conservation with both local and international audiences. SeaKeepers provided examples of projects that were created by the US 2024-25 Junior SeaKeepers cohort. These showed the UK students just how diverse their own projects can be, anything from posters to music videos. The session ended with the students sharing why they want to be a part of the Junior SeaKeepers programme and how their passions and interests can influence their own projects.

The International SeaKeepers Society would like to thank King Edward’s Witley for hosting us along with their wonderful hospitality. We look forward to working with the students and are excited to see them grow throughout the programme to become future ocean stewards.
