October 2021

In October 2021, the Junior SeaKeepers Program launched their inaugural cohort in partnership with Cushman High School. The Junior SeaKeepers Program is a 6-month training program for high school students interested in marine science, research, and conservation. To start the program, students listened to a webinar focused on microplastics, delivered by University of Miami student and Programming Intern Sarah Van Roekel. Students learned the history of plastic and why it is so prevalent today, and learned how to distinguish between different types of microplastics.

This webinar topic will prepare students for their microplastics research project that will take place from December 2021 to April 2022. To learn more about the Junior SeaKeepers Program and how to apply for the 2022-2023 cycle, contact [email protected]
