Hobie Island
January 15, 2022

Overview

Our first cleanup of the New Year was off to a great start on January 15th! A sunny Saturday that saw a calm, blue bay and warm sand despite a chilly early morning. Volunteers checked out a new stretch of Hobie Beach with us and walked away with 11 bags weighing in at 112 pounds, much of which was documented using Ocean Conservancy's Clean Swell app to keep a record of the different types of trash present on this beach and in it's grasses.

We are so proud of what our volunteers were able to accomplish despite a late start, and surprised at the varieties of pollution we saw at this site, which included sandals, shirts, and a large amount of glass fragments. We were even paid visits by a few animals like starfish, a stingray, and a cat! Overall, we think this was such a strong beginning for this year's cleanup series and we are so thankful to our volunteers, supporters, and Junior SeaKeepers. 2022 is going to be a good one!
