SeaKeepers at the 2024 Antigua Charter Yacht Show

English Harbour, Antigua
December 4 - 9, 2024

Overview

From December 4th to 9th, 2024, The International SeaKeepers Society's Program Development Manager, Aubri Keith, attended the Antigua Charter Yacht Show. This experience allowed SeaKeepers to establish meaningful connections with charter yachts and their dedicated crews, as well as engage with marine vendors, charter brokers, and organizations deeply rooted in the yachting industry.

Throughout the event, SeaKeepers showcased its dynamic programs dedicated to advancing marine research, conservation, and education. The enthusiastic response from charter yachts and industry stakeholders reaffirmed the importance of our mission, fostering collaborations that contribute to a sustainable and thriving marine ecosystem.

A significant highlight of this year's show was the addition of seven new DISCOVERY Yachts to the SeaKeepers fleet, further expanding our ability to facilitate marine science initiatives worldwide. Additionally, SeaKeepers participated in the M/Y Unbridled's seminar, "The Future of Chartering," to discuss how charter yachts can incorporate Scientist-Led Expeditions into their itineraries and make more sustainable choices in their daily activities. This platform provided an excellent opportunity to inspire charter brokers and vessels to align their operations with eco-conscious practices and actively support marine research.

Following the show, SeaKeepers joined the crew of M/Y Unbridled and local partners from the Antigua & Barbuda Ocean Trust in a beach and mangrove cleanup. From kayaks, the team collected eight bags of trash, which were then delivered to YachtAid Global's beach cleanup for proper disposal. YachtAid Global, in collaboration with the local group Adopt a Coastline, facilitated this initiative to ensure the waste was managed responsibly.

These efforts not only demonstrated the collective commitment to reducing marine debris but also showcased how the yachting community can play an active role in protecting the ocean and coastal ecosystems.

SeaKeepers looks forward to continuing these vital conversations and partnerships as we advance sustainability and support scientific research through the yachting industry.
